How to be Successful in Your New Business
Successful business leaders are ambitious and dynamic. With the current economic plateau, there can be no room for a honeymoon period in a new business. The first few weeks should be like a sprint, followed by a marathon.
There will undoubtedly be many challenges ahead, like being overwhelmed with tasks, feeling under time pressure, having to deal with a myriad of things you have never thought about before, and the investment costs of your new venture, both financial and emotional.
To begin with you must set a strong, achievable and focused plan, clearly outlining your key strategic priorities. This should focus on exactly what you will do and how you will do it, and the target you are aiming for at the end of a relatively short period, say 3 months.
When writing your plan, ensure that you include key performance accelerators, such as;
- People do business with people, so building new business networks and forging strong links with customers or clients and suppliers and the local community. Learning as much as you can about your market and your competitors.
- Be aware of when you are affected by tiredness and feeling stressed, and how this will affect your performance and your relationships with others around you.
- Focus on leadership effectiveness, understanding what leadership is really about; setting a clear direction and taking people along with you.
So when you write your first 3 month plan, identify strategic priorities, set achievable aims, tailor the plan to meet your specific needs and gear it toward performance acceleration that will have an immediate and lasting impact on your business as it grows.
